Summary of changes – improved Holiday Home Insurance policy. Effective for Holiday Home Insurance policy renewals and new holiday home insurance policies with effect from 1st March 2008.
- We have changed the Holiday Home Insurance policy document to a clearer style.
- We have introduced a number of improvements to the Holiday Home Insurance Policy cover.

Holiday Home Insurance - Summary of changes
Section 1 – Property damage
Any satellite dish, television or radio aerial, wind turbine, solar panel or security equipment breaking or collapsing.
We have added cover for satellite dishes, wind turbines, solar panels and security equipment breaking or collapsing.

Damage to services
We have added accidental damage cover to service pipes, cables, sewers and drains serving your premises for which you are responsible. This includes the cost of clearing blockages.

Trace and access
We have added cover for the costs and expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred by you with our consent in locating the source of a leakage of oil or water at your premises and subsequent repair and making good.
The most we will pay for any one claim is £5,000.

Damage by emergency services
We have increased the maximum amount we will pay for any one claim from £1,000 to £5,000.

Loss of keys
We have widened cover to include the reasonable cost necessarily incurred in replacing door or window locks including locks to safes and alarms following loss of keys (as well as theft of keys).
The most we will pay for any one claim is £1,500.

Contents - Books, works of art, television audio/video equipment
We have increased the maximum we will pay for each single article from £750 to £1500 and a maximum at any one property from £2500 to £5000.

Property in the open
We have increased the maximum amount we will pay from £1,000 to £5,000 in any one period of insurance.

Temporary removal of contents
We have increased the maximum amount we will pay for any one claim from £1,000 to £2,500.

Section 3 - Liabilities
Cover 2 – Public & products liability
Public liability – your legal liability for accidental bodily injury to third parties or damage to their property. We have increased the maximum amount we will pay for any one event from £2,000,000 to £3,000,000.

Products liability – your legal liability for accidental bodily injury to third parties or damage to their property caused by goods sold or supplied. We have increased the maximum amount we will pay for any one event from £2,000,000 to £3,000,000. See page 34 of the Holiday Home Insurance policy document.
Section 5 – Legal expenses
Your policy now automatically includes Legal expenses cover arranged in conjunction with DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited.
This section provides cover for legal fees, compensation awards or appeal costs arising from a wide range of legal disputes that you may become involved in.
The most we will pay for all claims occurring at the same time or from the same originating cause is £25,000.
We will protect your legal position in the areas shown below:
Employment disputes
We will negotiate for an insured person’s legal rights in an Employment Tribunal for a dispute arising from their employment contract.

Contract disputes
We will negotiate your legal rights in a dispute arising from an agreement for the sale, hire or purchase of goods and services or in connection with the buying or selling of your holiday let.

Bodily injury
We will pursue your legal rights following accidental death or physical injury.

Property protection
We will pursue your legal rights following damage to your holiday let for problems such as nuisance and trespass.

Jury service
We will pay an insured person’s salary or wages for the time that they are off work while attending jury service.

Legal defence
Defence of criminal prosecutions arising from your employment and the defence of civil actions in specified circumstances.

Holiday let
We will negotiate for your legal rights:
- after an event which causes physical damage to your property; and
- to evict anyone in your property who does not have your permission to be there.
We will defend your legal rights if an event arising from you letting your property leads to you being prosecuted in a criminal court.
